Wind Turbine Build Off
By Madeleine Martin | 6th December 2009
Following the success of our build off, we received a mention in sgurr energy's November newsletter!
Ian Irvine, Founder of SgurrEnergy was invited by Engineers Without Borders UK to judge a wind turbine build-off competition.
On 14 November 2009, the two teams hit the labs of Strathclyde University, Glasgow, UK with only a day to create masterpiece. The students were tasked with building wind turbines from resources that would only be available in the developing world in countries such as Malawi.
Ian commented,The day was a great success and it was tremendous to see the ingenuity of the students given they were restricted by time, money and materials - and so a reflection of how life is in the developing world. It was a pleasure to be involved with such an experiment and to see young engineers interested in and tackling the energy problems faced by the developing world.- sgurr energy newsletter Nov09/Dec09
