About EWB - Strathclyde

Strathclyde is one 28 branches of Engineers Without Borders UK across the country. Our aim is to give students the opportunity to get involved in development work through education, practical training events, links with professionals and summer placements. If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch at strathclyde@ewb-uk.org or come along to one our weekly meetings Mondays, 5pm, James Weir Building M329. All are welcome (you don't even have to be an engineer really!).

School Outreach

The EWB-UK Outreach programme provides the opportunity to inform and inspire the next generation of young engineers. Through hands-on workshops in schools and youth groups, we aim to engage young people between the age of 12-16, stimulating knowledge and awareness of development issues, and of the role that engineers can play in reducing the impact of poverty around the world. This year we sprang into action, editing a presentation and trialing it with school children. Join us with this exciting new project!

Talks & Training

Within training and events we organise a range of activities from branch training events to the upcoming Scottish Conference. Our most recent training day was The Wind Power Challenge which was supported by SGURR Energy and Scottish and Southern Energy. The training team are working towards holding a number of training events to expand the knowledge of our members.

Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of branch activities, as it provides much of the funding for research projects, training events, publicity and recruitment. We organise regular bake sales which are very popular, other past events include a battle of the bands, sponsored skydive and a sponsored marathon. New ideas for fundraising methods are always welcome.
